Wellington Earthquake National Initial Response Plan
Supporting Plan [SP 02/18]
A major earthquake affecting the Wellington region would severely impact the region. Including communities, businesses and infrastructure. This would have flow on implications for the rest of New Zealand.
The Wellington Earthquake National Initial Response Plan (WENIRP) supports response to this complex scenario. It has been developed to assist emergency managers and responding agencies. It is a Supporting Plan to the National Civil Defence Emergency Management Plan 2015 (National CDEM Plan 2015). It builds on the arrangements in the National CDEM Plan 2015.
The WENIRP directs responding agencies in the initial stages of the response. This is so they can take action immediately. Without requiring specific direction from the National Crisis Management Centre. The plan has a concept of operations for the response. It also includes roles and responsibilities for responding agencies. These allow agencies to pre-plan to respond and activate immediately.
